Gambling in Tennessee

The Volunteer State is one of the rare states where it has more of an online presence for gambling than it does in brick-and-mortar establishments.

There is currently not a single state-authorized commercial casino in the region, nor are there any casinos that have been allowed to have been built on ground owned by the state's tribal communities.

The state also has no race tracks for either greyhound or horse racing (fortunately the online scene is a different story of horse racing fans), and as there are no sportsbooks in the state the only chance you have of placing real money on the outcomes of NFL games, for example, would be via taking part in a fantasy league game.

However, the state has somehow managed to pass a bill that allows from May 2019 online sports betting, but with no operators yet in place the first bet is not expected to take place until early 2020.

Despite having a large resilience to most forms of gambling for its inhabitants, the state chose to run a lottery after putting it to a public referendum in 2002. Sales began in 2004 but tickets can only be purchased from authorized retailer with no options to buy them online.
