New Jersey is very much a role model for other states that are looking to bring casinos and online gaming to the masses. It has the largest variety of options in terms of gambling outside of Nevada.
It was one of the very first states that took action to legalize and bring in online gambling and also enable sports betting to happen not just in the licensed casino but also online casinos.
The state currently has 10 active real-world casinos, all of which are located in Atlantic City; at each of these establishments you will find a vast selection of slot machines along with traditional table games such as poker, roulette and craps.
Now thanks to a challenge made in the US Supreme Court, the state of New Jersey in May 2018 got the federal ban on sports betting overturned. The first legal sports betting in the state was made in June of that year when Governor Phil Murphy staked $20 that Germany would win the 2018 World Cup and the New Devils Devils would bring home the Stanley Cup in 2019 (neither happened).
Not only does the state enjoy plenty of casinos, but there are several race tracks in operation in the state, one of which houses its own sportsbook. Fans of the NFL and fantasy leagues are not just serviced by the casinos these days as they can also play in DFS legally online.
New Jersey also operates a state lottery, and tickets can be purchased at authorized retailers. Residents are also allowed to purchase tickets for games like Powerball online.
