The playing of Daily Fantasy Sports was legalized but not regulated in 2012 with the industry being self-regulated. However, in 2017 Maryland passed legislation that players must be at least 18 years old to play and that amateur or college sports are prohibited from being included in fantasy games.
With this now in law, Maryland residents can now be safe in the knowledge when they sign up with operators such as FanDuel that they are acting perfectly legal and can play real money fantasy leagues legitimately.
