Legalized gambling is a relatively new concept to the Old Line State with the first authorized casino not opening its doors until 2010 (Hollywood Casino in Perryville). This venue was at first limited to just allow slot machines to operate, but in 2012 there was a referendum passed in the state to allow casino table games to be legalized. With this sign of public approval, there was an increased desire for more casinos and five have since been given permission to operate. They have started to open their doors to offer residents an array of table games and slot machines, the latest being the MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill that was built at a cost of $1.2 billion. It opened its doors in 2016 and boasts over 3,000 slot machines and more than 160 table games.
However, as with many other states that have welcomed gambling, no sportsbook betting is currently allowed to take place. Residents to place bets on NFL games can take part in online fantasy football leagues and play for real money via some of leading operators such as FanDuel. The state also boasts two racetracks where parimutuel wagering can take place at live events and they also simulcast events from around the country.
Although every care has been taken into providing the information for this map, state law can often change and this map is how we at GamingUSA understand the gambling law in each state to be as of March 27th 2023
