For many years, there was some uncertainty as to whether the playing of Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) was, in fact, legal in the state of Maine. Sites were accepting players without any kind of repercussion even though was no official regulation in place.
Legislators in Maine eventually helped to pass DFS regulation in August 2017 with bill SP 449, and it now comes under the jurisdiction of the Gambling Control Unit. Various clauses were added and a licencing fee for operators, but the main thing to take away from the bill is that it "exempts fantasy contests from the laws prohibiting games of chance and gambling."
Which means that players in Maine are legally allowed to make use of the real money gaming from licensed sites such as FanDuel, FantasyDraft and DraftKings.
