Despite some rocky times initially, in Kansas it is good news for players of fantasy leagues who wish to play DFS online for real money.
In 2015, Attorney General Derek Schmidt agreed with players that the contest was, in fact, playing games of skill and that it would be therefore legal to play in the state.
However, the opinion of one individual does not make it the law, and Attorney Generals can change their minds or be replaced. The issue was put to bed by the passing of bill HB 2155 which formally legalized and regulates the playing of fantasy sports leagues, it was signed off by then-Governor Sam Brownback and became law on July 1, 2015.
Kansas residents can now sign up to one of the regulated DFS operators without any legal repercussions.
