The Hawkeye State is very aptly named as you will find that the lawmakers in the land keenly kept an eye on the developments in New Jersey and similar forward-thinking states with the view of looking to expand upon the gambling laws in Iowa.
This came to fruition in May 2019 when the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission approved regulations to allow the creation of retail sportsbooks in the state which was quickly followed by mobile betting.
As it stands, there are a number of casinos in the region either on tribal or state soil and supplemented by a selection of riverboats where visitors can go to sportsbooks as well as play table games such as craps and roulette alongside slot machines, and of course, you will find poker rooms at these locations.
There is also one horse racing track in the state (Prairie Meadows in Altoona) where visitors can partake in some pari-mutuel betting as well as a licensed greyhound track in Dubuque.
Although every care has been taken into providing the information for this map, state law can often change and this map is how we at GamingUSA understand the gambling law in each state to be as of March 27th 2023
