It is good news for sports betting fans in the Prairie State, thanks to Senate Bill 690 the state will issue licences to selected venues such as sports stadiums, racetracks and casinos that will allow the brick and mortar establishments to start running retail sportsbooks as well as these locations being allowed to create mobile betting apps. This will be good news for operators such as DraftKings and Pointsbet (and other online operators) who will be allowed to partner up with the land-based operators to make use of the three online-only licenses that are set to be issued under the new law.
The only provisions so far for sportsbook betting is that players must be aged 21 or over and that registration must be completed in person for the first 18 months of when the law becomes active and that any mobile takes place within state lines.
It is now not a question of if, but when will sports betting begin - the only real delays are down to the terms and conditions such as operator licence fees being ironed out before the public can begin their sports betting journey.
