The status of DC sports betting is that is has managed to jump all of its final legislative hurdles. It has has been agreed that retail sportsbook can apply for a Class A license and that bars and restaurants that are located at least two blocks away from a stadium may apply for a Class B licence. Online betting in the state will be controlled by the DC Lottery.
With things going as planned, we could be seeing the first legal sports bet to be placed as early as summer 2019, so it will not just be on Daily Fantasy Sports that residents will be able to place real money bets.
There are no active race tracks in the District of Columbia and therefore the state does not currently allow online horse racing bets to be made.
There is a state lottery active and this is a key element in allowing the prospect of online sports bets to be made as they will be responsible for it, although currently this is not able to be played online..
